From Apprentice to Aspiring General Manager: Ellie-May’s hospitality dreams
Ever wondered where an M&B apprenticeship could take you? Let’s introduce you to Ellie-May, a rising star at The Treacle Mine (a buzzing Sizzling Pub & Grill in Essex) who’s got her sights set on becoming a General Manager by the time she hits 25. Yep, you read that right.
She’s not just dreaming it, she’s doing it. Ellie-May recently smashed her Level 2 Hospitality Team Member apprenticeship in Food and Beverage, earning a nationally recognised qualification and levelling up her skills, all while working.
That’s the magic of being a management apprentice at M&B.
Why Ellie-May chose the Manager Apprentice route
“I’d seen other people do it, and I’m always up for a challenge. Plus, getting an official qualification while working? Count me in.”
Ellie-May was drawn to the manager apprentice path after seeing it work wonders for her teammates. It felt like the right move, a chance to gain confidence, get certified, and build real skills that matter.
Highlights? Loads. But recognition tops the list.
“Getting recognised for what I already knew, that felt good.”
Ellie-May says one of her favourite moments was being acknowledged for the skills she already had. Her apprenticeship gave her the structure, support, and confidence to really step things up.
From job to career mindset
“I started taking things more seriously, thinking about the business side, not just the day-to-day.”
Being a management apprentice helped Ellie-May see her job through a new lens. It wasn’t just about serving guests anymore, it was about leadership, pride, and long-term goals.
Balancing act? She’s got it down.
Of course, it wasn’t always easy. Balancing training, shifts, and life outside of work? That took some serious time management skills, but Ellie-May’s got it sorted.
“At first, I was a bit daunted, but I found my rhythm. It’s all about taking things one step at a time.”
Would she recommend it? 100%.
“Absolutely! It helps your career, builds confidence, and you get a proper qualification. Why wouldn’t you?”
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to level up, Ellie-May thinks an apprenticeship is a great move, especially if you're aiming for a future as a manager apprentice or beyond.
Next stop: General Manager
Ellie-May’s next big goal? Becoming a GM before she turns 25. Ambitious? Definitely. Doable?
Especially with the support, structure, and opportunities that come with being a management apprentice at M&B.
