Why Kelly stayed at M&B to progress her career
Kelly was recently appointed to the role of Executive Personal Assistant to Divisional Directors and the Group Property Director. We spoke to her about her time at M&B and how her career has progressed.
‘I have always felt supported by M&B throughout my career. I started seven years ago as Property Admin Assistant and worked my way up to where I am today. I’ve had quarterly personal development plan meetings from the very start, where I’ve been able to outline my ambition and goals and with each meeting I’ve been pushed towards my future.
Not only has my line manager’s encouragement been invaluable, but support from wider departments, colleagues, and free online training has really helped to get me to where I am. I have always felt that M&B have that ‘family feel’ where your thoughts and opinions are valued and actioned. Plus, I am very fortunate to have made my lifelong friends in this company.
To progress your career internally, be clear about your ambitions and you’ll be supported all the way. If there is another team you’re interested in working within, don’t feel embarrassed to ask for a meeting and get to know what they do. Not only will you hear about future positions, but you’ll also get to know more people within the corporate team! Networking in such a large company can be key to a successful future.’
Accelerate your career as a new starter like Kelvin
Kelvin, joined as a Solutions Architect in November 2021 and was recently promoted to a Digital Architect.
‘I joined M&B with a strong personal affinity to quite a few of our brands having wined and dined at nearly all of them over the years. The recruitment market was (and still is) hot, but I knew M&B had the size and scale to make the forward-leaning digital investments that the hospitality industry needed. I reached out to a colleague I used to work with, and she spoke so highly of the environment here I applied immediately.
I've worked in software and architecture leadership roles across a plethora of industries including logistics, gambling and edtech. Whilst this is a nice mix of industries (and challenges!) I've always specialised in the customer experience which made me a great fit for hospitality and the opportunities that M&B has as we come out of the pandemic.
Onboarding and working in a hybrid environment are the new normal, but it was my first time. Luckily everyone at RSC and beyond is incredibly supportive of new starters. I highly recommend applying if you are thinking about it.’
