Top reasons to look for a hospitality job on the south coast
Choosing where to work is a big decision and one that you might put a bit of pressure on yourself to get right. If the thought of a job on the south coast of England has crossed your mind, let us tell you why you might be onto a winner.
Perhaps you're toying with the idea of relocating from somewhere else. Or, you're already based here, and you're wondering whether to put down some roots or try out a new place. We've got plenty of teams spread across the South coast who love working along the shoreline. Here's a little insight into why it might be the perfect place to find a job and what you should be looking for.
Job opportunities are moving on up
When we asked Sam, General Manager at the Harvest in Bournemouth, what was so great about building a hospitality career by the coast. The first thing she mentioned was the opportunities. With so many scenic spots on the South coast of England, this stretch of the country is pulling in more and more visitors each year. They come looking for ice cream, pints in the sun, places to stay and sights to see. This added tourism is creating more business for the pubs, bars and restaurants and more hospitality jobs for the locals.
There's never a dull moment
So there is going to be a gloomy day thrown in here and there and you're going to have to battle with the wind on occasion - but there is always something to do.
You can try The Wim Hof Method and plunge yourself into the sea, march your friends on a clifftop walk, wander around the seaside towns and cities, explore the country pubs and enjoy a spot of sunbathing in the summer months.
And then there are the events that bring hordes of people to the coast all year round. We're talking about music festivals, beer festivals, concerts, sports events, Christmas markets, and a growing number of food festivals.
A summer job could turn into a career
You might not have worked out if hospitality is the right career path for you, and that's okay. But it's good to pick a job that has longevity, meaning there's the chance you could work your way up in the company. How can you spot a job like this?
-
Larger businesses will normally have more opportunities, so look for pubs or restaurants that employ a lot of people
-
Pubs and restaurants based in cities are always looking to fill roles because people come and go in these busier areas. As more opportunities become vacant, there's a good chance for you to step into a more senior role.
A great place to live all year long
We're not guaranteeing warm beach evenings and glorious coastal walks all year round - it is England after all. But let us paint you a picture. It's the middle of winter, and you're treated to a sunny day. You go for a walk, breathe in that fresh sea air, look out to the horizon and take it all in. And that's just one of the many reasons why we think working on the coast is so great.
Find a hospitality job that works for you
So whether you're on the hunt for a part-time job that will see you through summer, or something that could turn into a career, we might have just what you're looking for.
