Top 5 things that working on the coast allows you to do

Posting date: 17/06/2021

Coastal life is calling you. Yes, you!

Relocating for a job is one of life’s ultimate adventures. You don’t know who you are going to meet or what new sights you are going to see - and that’s all part of the fun. And what better place to relocate to than the coast?

So English beaches may not have the best reputations. Pebbles often come in place of white sand, and the water might not be crystal clear. But there’s no denying that Britain’s coastal spots are some of the most beautiful landscapes our nation has to offer.

So if you’re toying with the idea of relocating, here are five things that working on the coast allows you to do:

Beach fun – lots of it!

Now, you might not think of yourself as a beach person. But that’s what every beach-hater says until they’ve spent a great day at the beach. Trust us!

On the other hand, perhaps you’re a beach bum who loves nothing more than the feeling of sand between your toes and the serene sound of waves crashing around you. If just reading this has got you feeling fintastic, then what else is there to think about?

A new outdoor hobby

You and your work friends have so many new hobbies to choose from. Surfing, fishing, paddleboarding, kayaking, hiking and cycling, to name a few.

And, if you try your hand at a new hobby and it doesn’t work out, that just leaves you more time to enjoy a leisurely coastal walk or to work on your tan.

A great night’s sleep

This one might sound weird, so bear with us. A National Trust study found that a coastal walk can help you get a better night sleep. Their research showed that people who went for a stroll by the sea slept for 47 minutes longer, rather than the 12 minutes longer for people who strolled inland.

And let’s not forget about all that extra Vitamin D – and vitamin sea - you’ll get.

Show off your new home

You’re not just moving to the coast to be closer to nature and breathe in that fresh seaside air, are you? You want to show your friends and family that you’re living in the world’s coolest place.

So be ready for them to turn up on your doorstep and put on your tour guide shoes – you shore will have a lovely day.

Enjoy the wonders of nature

You might think that greenery is what you need to look for if you want tranquillity. But one study found that blue spaces beat green spaces in terms of lowering stress levels. Despite this, a whopping 83.65% of the UK population live in cities, and if you ask us, they don’t know what they’re missing out on.

Now, doesn't that sound like cause for shell-ebration!
