Looking for an IT Graduate Job? M&B could be the place for you!
Have you ever thought about combining your passion for IT with a career in hospitality? You've probably enjoyed a meal at some of the nation's most loved brands including Toby Carvery, Miller and Carter and O’Neills. But have you ever considered us as a place to kickstart your IT career?
Why IT in Hospitality?
Yes, you may not view hospitality as the most obvious industry for a career in tech, however, you will be amazed at how much IT impacts our industry, and the contribution you could have.
At M&B, we are committed to cultivating and nurturing exceptional tech talent. This is why every year we welcome at least one IT graduate to join our business for a work placement within our Business Change and Technology team.
What makes our IT graduate scheme so special?
The IT Graduate Scheme at M&B is designed to develop rounded IT professionals, ready to build their future career in Technology.
This 18-month graduate job scheme consists of a range of placements throughout the change and technology function of our business. You'll benefit from both on-the-job learning and participation in continuous development through internally organised activities.
And that is not all! Following your placement, there is a chance that you can be interviewed and appointed for your first permanent role in our IT team.
In this interview, IT graduate Alex talks about his experience on the scheme.
Why choose an M&B IT Graduate Scheme?
Why did you apply to the M&B IT Graduate scheme?
The Graduate Scheme looked like a great opportunity to combine the knowledge learnt from my degree in Business, Computing and IT and the skills gained working as a supervisor in Hospitality. It excited me that I could add value across a huge estate of outlets via technology, whilst understanding operational struggles and adding a different perspective across BC&T throughout rotations.
What skills did you develop through the IT Graduate scheme?
I developed an abundance of skills since joining M&B. I had the opportunity learn the PowerSuite, creating and coding tools and flows that are used across the business. I learnt how to manage a broad range of vendors for projects and for “Business as usual” service. Most importantly, the scheme has developed my resilience through being given lots of responsibility throughout the last year. M&B really do empower graduates and give you the tools you need to add value across the business.
What makes a hospitality IT graduate scheme unique?
What makes the M&B IT graduate scheme unique is the skillset you get from being part of all the different functions, including Application Support, Business Analysis, Vendor Management and Project Management. As you move through the rotations, you get a very unique skillset that allows you to help inform business decisions.
What are your future career goals after completing the IT grad scheme?
My ambition is to lead my own team within a BC&T function, with a huge focus on developing others. The scheme has taught me how much I love working with others and seeing them grow. My dream is to be a subject matter expert in a chosen field and then grow into management at M&B. I would also love to be in a role with a big involvement with our retail outlets, having had a key focus on supporting our businesses since the start of the scheme.
WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR STUDENTS CONSIDERING THE M&B IT GRADUATE SCHEME?
Throw yourself into every opportunity, you won’t regret it! At first, the terminology, systems and processes will seem daunting. But through getting to know the flow of IT from idea to BAU support, you will surprise yourself with how much knowledge you will gain in a short amount of time.
And also, always keep the outlets at the front of your mind! The RSC is where we work and is named the Retail Support Centre for a reason, in that everything we do focuses on supporting our outlet teams.
CAN YOU SHARE THE ‘GREATEST MOMENT’ YOU’VE HAD WHILST BEING AT M&B?
My career highlight at MAB has been leading the Smart-stock scanning replacements project to a point where we have chosen a device and partner to support. This process has involved many site visits and stakeholder management to understand the requirements from the business and find a device that co-indices with our hardware strategy. We will soon be rolling the new device out across all of our sites, something I am immensely proud of.
