We have a fantastic 12-month fixed term contract opportunity for a Qualified Accountant looking for an exciting new challenge in a role that offers unique insight across our Financial Accounts operation. In the role of Group Accountant you will be specialising in Internal and External Financial reporting, with a focus on IFRS 16 & Impairment.
This unique opportunity requires an individual to focus on the following;
External financial reporting;
- You will own and deliver the production of the subsidiary financial statements and contribute towards the production of the Group interim statement and Annual Report.
Internal financial reporting;
- You will contribute towards the production of the periodic group consolidation including consolidated balance sheet and cash flow for management accounts.
IFRS 16 lease accounting;
- You will own processing and reporting of lease accounting.
Property impairment;
- You will complete the property impairment review process (half year / year end).
Control environment;
- You will document and perform controls around the impairment process and assist in documenting and monitoring the performance of financial controls across the finance department.

The Opportunity – Group Accountant
- Your role and responsibilities will be challenging and varied, including the following: -
- To prepare the Group’s UK subsidiary statutory accounts under FRS 101.
- To assist with the preparation of external Group reporting under IFRS including both the interim and annual consolidated reports.
- Posting of all IFRS 16 entries in relation to property leases (i.e. right-of-use asset and lease liability adjustments, depreciation charge, interest charge and finance lease receivable entries).
- Posting of accounting entries to eliminate the impact of IFRS 16 Lease accounting and enable reporting on a fixed GAAP basis, to enable the Group to meet covenant reporting requirements.
- Ownership of all IFRS 16 lease control accounts, including liaison with external property management company to monitor master data changes e.g. new leases, rent reviews, disposals, and liaison with the Finance Transaction Centre to investigate payment control variances.
- Production of all disclosure notes related to IFRS 16 that are required for periodic cash flow reporting, and the required notes for statutory reporting, at half year and year end.
- Ownership of other subsidiary IFRS 16 calculations and journals, including maintaining IFRS16 master data in the Horizon system, to include MAB Germany, and any other subsidiary that is not on the outsourced Horizon system.
- To ensure all work in support of the semi-annual short leasehold property and right-of-use asset impairment review is completed on a timely and accurate basis.
- To support the Head of Financial Accounts with the subsidiary investment impairment review.
- To identify the need for and complete the calculation of property provisions ensuring relevant control accounts are properly supported.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technical accounting matters, including FRS 101 and IFRS accounting standards, to ensure the subsidiary and consolidated financial statements remain compliant.
- Act as a key liaison with external auditors throughout the year, providing information as required and answering audit queries.
- To assist with documentation of key periodic controls across the finance department and support the Head of Financial Accounts to prepare for upcoming changes required as part of UK SOX.
- To assist with other financial accounts tasks as required, e.g. preparation of balance sheet and cash flow and fixed asset reporting and processing, implementation of new accounting standards and accounting for acquisitions and disposals.
Just like our brands, our teams are diverse. What we’d like to see from you: -
- Qualified Accountant, with strong technical accounting skills, including a good knowledge of IFRS and FRS 101, in particular IFRS 16 Leases.
- Experience of group consolidations.
- Excellent Excel skills.
- Experience using JD Edwards Enterprise One and Hubble (reporting tool) would be advantageous.
- Good team player but capable of working on own initiative.
- Strong organisational skills with ability to work to strict deadlines.
- Confident communicator, both verbally and written, with both internal and external contacts.
